Authorised Lay Minister Pilot Project
The Warden of Lay Ministry is working with ALMs , Readers and Rural Deans to explores ways we might strengthen the ALM support that already exists.
The pilot project is designed to facilitate open conversations and encourage three simple layers of support around Authorised Lay Ministers, namely Peer Support, Local Network Coordinators and Clerical Oversight.

Across our parishes, Authorised Lay Ministers (ALMs) offer faithful and generous service. Through pastoral care, prayer, worship, listening, and everyday presence in our communities, they help the Church share God’s love in many different ways.
The Warden of Lay Ministry is working with ALMs , Readers and Rural Deans to explores ways we might strengthen the ALM support that already exists.
Rather than creating something complicated, the idea is to encourage three simple layers of support around ALMs.
- Peer Support
- Local Network Coordinators
- Clerical Oversight
Three pilot projects are underway, and very positive meetings have been held in Lincoln and Spalding and one planned in Grantham
This idea is intended to be:
- Supportive
- Simple
- Flexible
- Rooted in prayer and reflection
It is not meant to create extra bureaucracy or place additional burdens on those already serving generously.
Lay ministry plays a vital role in the life and mission of our Diocese. The inherent faithfulness, generosity, and care for others make a real difference in the communities served.
Conversations are simply about how we might support one another even better as we continue our shared ministry together.
