Welcome Guest,

Training & Resources Bulletin April 2026

Christians set aside very specific times in the year, Lent and Advent, to make preparations. These periods of waiting and reflection are crucial to our discipleship journey, for though we long to reach what lies just beyond – the joys of Easter resurrection or the Incarnation – we need space and time to do the groundwork that readies us for all that is to come after the celebrations, work without which whatever comes next is weakened or diminished.

Of course, God can use us for good however primed – or otherwise – we are; but equipping  ourselves for the unexpected challenges of discipleship-living is no bad thing. After all, the uniformed organisations have, for years, emphasised the worth of being prepared. There’s a saying about pre-planning attributed to Abraham Lincoln which goes along the lines of ‘If I had four hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend the first two hours sharpening the axe.’ The work of many at Edward King House, and especially the College of St Hugh, is to provide and signpost resources and support to help you sharpen the axe in such a way that you can live out and be effective in the vocation to which God has called you. Why not commit to a post-Easter resolution which is about readying yourself, body, mind and spirit, with knowledge, skills, awareness, so that, when God calls, you are prepared to step up to the task in hand.  A good starting place is this Training, Resources, and Events Bulletin, or taking a tour around our Digital Learning Platform.

Grace and peace,

Jackie Johnson
