Hi Guest,

Children’s, Youth and Families Bulletin September 2026

There’s lots of good news to share this month, beginning with our new CYF Mission Enablers! Tina Obbard and Joel Botham joined the team on 21st September and are eager to make connections, have conversations and support parishes in their ministry with CYF.

Joel joins the diocese after serving as a Director of 0-18’s ministry at St Thomas’ Church, Brampton. He has 15 years of experience in Children, Youth and Families ministry, alongside a background in other youth work in local communities. He’s served in a variety of different contexts and traditions, including national festivals and conferences.
“My hope is that the lives of children, young people and families will be transformed through encountering Christ, and that they will discover in our churches and schools places where they are known, loved, welcomed and able to flourish.”

Tina joins the Diocese of Lincoln from Safe Families and Home for Good, where she served as a Church Relationship Coordinator. She has helped churches to understand and respond to the biblical call to care for children and families.

Before that, she worked as Children, Young People and Families Worker at St James’ Church, Wetherby with Linton, West Yorkshire. Her career has been dedicated to supporting children, young people and families.

“I am looking forward to returning to work for the Church of England. It almost feels like coming home. I’ll be combining my passion for church with my heart for communities and families.”

This is a really exciting time for CYF Ministry across the Diocese, and we are looking forward to being able to work together, with you.

Get in touch with Joel and Tina.

We held our commissioning service, which was a celebration and thank you for everyone involved in CYF Ministry across the Diocese, we’ve reconvened our Choral Church Network for those who use music as outreach to their community, and we have new ways to pray together!

Thank you for all you are and do for Children, Youth and Families.

God bless,

Micki

Celebration & Thanksgiving

Our 1st Commissioning Service was held on September 19th, in the Chapter House of the Cathedral.

Lynsey Norris, from the Diocesan Board of Education, came to help lead training on the Growing Faith ministry model, helping us to consider how we can develop partnerships between church, home and school. The intersection of these 3 spheres have been shown to be a place where the faith of children and young people can flourish.

You can find out more about Growing Faith through podcasts, research, a webinar and our network.

There was time to network, share refreshments and make connections with each other.

The morning culminated in the commissioning service, where Bishop Jean encouraged us to “devote ourselves to prayer”, reflecting on Colossians 4:2-6, and to “make the most of every opportunity”.

As each minister was recognised, prayed for and committed themselves to follow their calling, we hope they felt valued and supported for the year ahead.
