CYF Easter Resources

Alive:Encounters, by young people for young people, is a 5 video series exploring post resurrection encountersw with Jesus.

There are family activities, too, from the Bible Society, with a video to download, snack and ispy sheets and pop up service resources.

Found on a facebook group “Collective Worship (school assemblies) – ideas and resources” (I’ve tried it and it works…!)
“You need, a dinner plate, large glass, small amount of coloured liquid/wine in a jug, night light, match, cloth.

The story;

• Long ago God made the world, a beautiful world that was just perfect (hold up dinner plate).
• And into that world he poured out his love in the form of human beings (pour 2-3cm of wine/liquid into glass).
• (Holding up glass) God always wanted us to be in relationship with him, where we would be safe and secure as we explored the new world he had made. (Place glass on plate)
• But humans did not want to stay in relationship with God, they wanted to explore the world themselves and go their own way. (pour liquid onto plate).
• By going their own way they messed up the world God had made. God told the people how they could get back into relationship with him, but the people just messed up even more. (You could try pouring a little back into the glass but deliberately miss)
• So when the time was right God sent his son as a light into the world (light night light and place on plate)
• The light showed people the way back to God but Jesus’ words and actions made some people angry. So they captured Jesus (place glass over lit night light)
• beat him and killed him until his light was extinguished. (candle goes out)
• His body was taken to a tomb and which covered by a stone. (cover glass with cloth)
• A few days later women went to the tomb but something had changed – all they found was the blood stained cloth that had wrapped his body (wipe cloth around outside of plate to collect ‘blood stains’)
• and to their amazement, they found that Jesus’ death had brought all people back into relationship with God (the candle burns up the air creating a vacuum that gets filled by the liquid).
• Jesus had turned the world upside down (holding glass and plate turn it upside down so wine and candle fall into glass)
• making away for everyone to live with him and God forever…”
