Can you offer a prayerful space?

A Day-Retreat Space: Can you offer a prayerful space in your church for lay and ordained ministers to find refreshment and renewal?

Many of our ministers take an annual retreat at a place specifically designed to create a prayerful atmosphere for rest, reflection, and renewal.

This is usually 3 – 5 days away in a different location in which to switch off from the usual duties of ministry.

However, many ministers need a spiritual top up every now and then, so in addition to their annual retreat, or when they’ve found it difficult to get away for several days at a time, it would be helpful to identify churches around the diocese that can offer a prayerful space for just a day, where they can be alone with God, to think and pray, and crucially, a place where they won’t be asked to do anything – i.e. with no expectation to be ‘on call’ for anything. They would also need access to a kitchen in which to make hot drinks, and of course, toilet facilities.

Everyone finds God in different places, so whether your church is in the middle of nowhere, in a market or coastal town, or in the city, if you think it has the right ambiance and facilities to give a minister space in which to come away from their usual duties for a short time to regroup and be renewed, then please get in touch with Alice Maikuma via alice.maikuma@lincoln.anglican.org providing:

  • details of the church and its location
  • the space available – i.e. the whole church, and/or a vestry, office or rest area in which to read/write/pray without interruption
  • the facilities available to a visitor (kitchen/tea/coffee making facilities, toilet etc)
  • the days of the week it is available
  • does the space have any accessibility issues
  • would there be a charge or minimum donation you’d require, and if so, what?
  • the name of whomever should be contacted to ‘book’ (and contact details for whomever is supplying a key)
  • a note on whether there are/could be leaflets about local walks around the area of the church

We will compile a list of places which we can then circulate to our ALMS, Readers, and clergy.
