Seeking God: Seeking Growth – Planning for Growth

Every church is invited to take part in this prayerful, creative planning process. ‘Seeking God: Seeking Growth’ is our annual process of exploring, seeking and developing growth plans with every church.  It helps churches to work with God in seeking His guidance for growth in worshippers, discipleship and in serving our communities.

This resource is for churches intentionally seeking God’s guidance to grow in numbers, deepen in discipleship, serving their communities.

What is Seeking God: Seeking Growth?

Seeking God: Seeking Growth offers a flexible, prayerful review and planning process that all churches can use creatively. Building on biblical parables and passages it helps every church to develop a locally owned growth plan.

Who is it for?

Seeking God: Seeking Growth (SG:SG) is for all types of churches intentionally aiming to grow in numbers, deepen in discipleship, and engage more with their communities. It is especially designed for Local Mission Churches, Community Churches, and Festival Churches and is adaptable for use by Key Mission Churches. These growth plans will inform the wider Local Mission Partnership missional plans.

By using these materials, we pray more people will experience God’s reconciling love in Christ Jesus, join in worship, build deeper relationships, and grow in active faith together. Regardless of your church’s size, vocation, or tradition, every Christian has a role in God’s mission. SG:SG invites you to explore how this can look in your church and community.

How do we use Seeking God: Seeking Growth?

Identify a Leader

‘Seeking God: Seeking Growth’ is designed to be led by an incumbent, who may choose to delegate to a local church leader. A resource hub with ‘Notes for Leaders’ is available to Clergy and Readers, when they are logged into learn-grow-share. If your SG:SG leader is neither Clergy nor Reader, then with the incumbents support, they can apply to gain access to the full resources by filling in the form below.

Consider a Co-facilitator

Some church leaders may prefer inviting a prayerful facilitator from within or outside the parish to assist in the delivery of these sessions. You may already have someone you would want to work with, or you may wish to contact your Deanery Partnership Mission Enabler or Sarah Spencer, Mission and Discipleship Officer, for ideas. They can also apply to gain access to the full resources by filling in the form below.

Built in Flexibility

The resources are designed to be easy to use, and can be edited to suit your local delivery method.

As SG:SG is designed to be flexible, it allows you to adapt it creatively to your context. Here are some ideas:

Plan your own liturgies and music: You know best how to craft worship for your local context

Be creative with session delivery: You can divide the materials into more sessions and spread them over several weeks, or combine Sessions 1 & 2 into an intensive workshop day.

Collaborate with others: Bring together a Parish Partnership or Benefice or similar groups of churches to run the process collectively and learn from each other’s thinking.
