Church Action on Poverty Resources

Do you want to deepen your church’s ongoing commitment to justice, and help to overcome some challenges facing your community?

Church Action on Poverty has a range of resources, for church leaders or members.

Frequently in the Bible, God shows concern first and foremost with people who have been excluded from society by poverty and injustice. Mary sings of the Lord who has “lifted up the lowly”, Jesus says “Blessed are the poor”, the Old Testament tells of prophets standing up against rich and powerful oppressors, and laws like Jubilee are designed to ensure nobody is left behind or exploited.

What does this mean for Christians today? What are the applicable lessons for our lives?

Church Action on Poverty has produced two publications under the title Scripture From The Margins: Untold Stories, and Dangerous Stories. Both contain retellings of familiar Bible stories, with questions for group reflection.

For a lengthier resource, one of its advisors and former trustees, Stef Benstead, is the author of Just Worship, which explores how Christians can and should lead lives that most truly reflect the character of God.

The charity also led the Church on the Margins research project in recent years, producing two reports on how denominations and individual churches could adapt.

The 2025 theme was Dreams & Realities, based on a powerful portrait project with artist Stephen Martin, featuring the stories and aspirations of people living in deep hardship in Britain today.
